Friedrich Baumann is President, Aftersales for Navistar, Inc. In this capacity, he is responsible for Navistar’s parts business, service, warranty and dealer network development. In addition, he is responsible for the Alliance management between Navistar and Traton SE. He serves on the company’s Executive Leadership team.

Baumann joined Navistar in April of 2018, as Senior Vice President, Strategy and Planning. Prior to joining Navistar, he served as Senior Vice President of the aftermarket business unit of Daimler Trucks North America since 2012. In this role, he was also a board member of the DTNA Operating Committee.

Prior to this, Baumann was the managing director of Engine Holding GmbH, a joint venture between Daimler AG and Rolls-Royce plc., based in Stuttgart, Germany. From 2009-2011, Baumann was the group director of strategy and business development for Global Truck, Bus and Van divisions of Daimler AG.

Prior to that, he was president of Detroit Diesel Remanufacturing LLC and served on the boards of Atlantic Detroit Diesel Allison LLC and Florida Detroit Diesel Allison LLC.

He began his career with Freightliner in 1993 and held several roles of increasing responsibilities. This included many areas within the company from Finance & Controlling to Used Trucks, Procurement and Supply in both the United States and Germany.

Robin Teigland

Professor, Management of Digitalization, Chalmers University of Technology

Robin Teigland (Ph.D.) is Professor in Management of Digitalization in the Entrepreneurship and Strategy Division at TME. She is also Professor of Business Administration, with a specialization in Strategic Information Systems Management, and Co-director of the Center for Strategy and Competitiveness at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE). In 2017, 2018 and 2019 Robin was listed by the Swedish business magazine, Veckans Affärer, as one of Sweden’s most influential women, primarily in technology (#12 in 2017 and #6 in 2018).

As part of her current activities, Robin co-leads the Peniche Ocean Watch Initiative in Peniche, Portugal. The Peniche Ocean Watch Initiative (POW) aspires to enable a blue circular economy and global best practice in tackling ocean waste and regional rejuvenation through joining forces with local efforts in the coastal areas of Peniche and facilitating knowledge sharing and creativity in ocean-based industry and digitalization. Robin's lecturing and research interests reside at the intersection of strategy, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship and include the following:
• Digital innovation networks and the creation and diffusion of knowledge through internet-enabled communities and networks, e.g., open source software communities, digital entrepreneurial ecosystems
• Digitalization and the influence of the convergence of disruptive technologies, e.g., artificial intelligence, IoT, smart robots, blockchains, 3D printing, virtual reality, gene editing, on the future of the firm, labor and value creation in society
• Social impact through digitally-enabled circular economies, particularly in coastal areas
• The new industrial revolution and the future of the Swedish welfare state and the nation state

While at SSE Robin sat on SSE’s Board of Directors from May 2017 to October 2018, and she was the Program Director of SSE's PhD Program in Business Administration 2010 to 2015. Outside of SSE, Robin is a Fellow of the KIN Center for Digital Innovation at the VU University in Amsterdam and a member of the Singularity University Portugal Faculty.

Robin has published numerous books, articles in international books and academic journals, and industry reports (see links to right). Her most recent book is The Rise and Development of FinTech: Accounts of Disruption from Sweden and Beyond and is available for download through open access at Routledge Publishing. Robin is often interviewed on Swedish national TV and radio, and her research is frequently mentioned in Swedish and international media. For example, her most recent report, The Substitution of Labor – From technological feasibility to other factors influencing the potential of job automation, was featured in Forbes in February 2018. She is a sought after global speaker, having spoken for multinationals such as Microsoft, Google, H&M, and Volkswagen, and for Sweden’s government ministries, such as the Ministry of Finance, and other organizations, such as the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce (www.robinteigland.com). She is also active and influential among social media users, with over 300,000 views on Slideshare (www.slideshare.net/eteigland) and 2700 followers on Twitter (@RobinTeigland). Due to her interest in the "bigger picture" of the impact of the internet on society, her research was highlighted in the mini-film featured on TechCrunch: "The Networked Society". Additionally, she has been listed as one of the Global Top 50 Business Professors on Twitter (@robinteigland), and in 2008 she received the “Researcher of the Year” award at the Stockholm School of Economics.

In addition to her research, Robin is an Expert Reviewer for funding organizations such as VINNOVA - Sweden’s Innovation Agency, the UK’s Economic & Social Research Council, and the Swiss National Science Foundation.

On a personal note, Robin is from the USA and grew up in Nashville, Tennessee (but she does not sing 🙂 ). She holds a B.A. in Economics with Distinction from Stanford University, an MBA from the Wharton School, an MA in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, and a PhD in Business Administration from the Stockholm School of Economics. She also has a range of work experience, such as venture capital in Silicon Valley, consulting for McKinsey & Co. in Sweden and Spain, an entrepreneur in Norway, production operations for Esso in Chile, stock brokerage in Spain, and international banking in USA. In her free time, she enjoys learning from her five children as well surfing longboard waves and co-running her Ocean Tech Hub coworking/coliving space and Go4Surf surf school in Peniche, Portugal.

Carlo Alberto Carnevale-Maffé

Professor of Strategy, Bocconi University School of Management

Carlo Alberto Carnevale-Maffè is professor of Strategy at Bocconi University School of Management (Milan), where it has been director of the Master in Strategy. He also taught at MBA and Executive Programs with Wharton School University of Pennsylvania, Stern School of Business New York University, HEC Paris, Steinbeis University Berlin, International Management Institute New Delhi, MISB Mumbai and was visiting lecturer at the Senior Executive Program of Columbia Business School (New York).

He has been member of the Steering Committee E-business Policies of European Commission DG Enterprise, and served in many editorial boards of management journals (such as Harvard Business Review Italy).

He is strategy adviser and independent non executive director in the management board of leading international companies in ICT and media, focusing on innovation, media and telecommunications. He is director of United Ventures, the largest private venture capital fund in Italy. He has been member of the board of ABI Lab, research consortium of Italian Banking Association. He has been serving as scientific adviser to CEFRIEL, Research Center of Politecnico of Milan, TEH Ambrosetti, ANIE Confindustria. He collaborates as columnist and commentator for financial newspapers and televisions, such as Il Sole 24 Ore, Radio24, Class CNBC, Rai News, Sky TG24, TGCom24, BBC Radio and TV. Anders Grudén

CEO, Syncron

Anders Grudén has served as Syncron’s CEO since 2004 and has overall responsibility for the company’s global strategy, organization, culture and operations. Under Mr. Grudén’s direction, the company has expanded globally to serve its growing list of market leading customers that rely on Syncron to maximize the performance of their after-sales service operations.

Prior to Syncron, Mr. Grudén served in executive roles with Accenture Strategic Services where he assisted Chief Executives of large, multinational manufacturing companies to take full advantage of their global market coverage. Mr. Grudén has also worked as a Managing Director for Investor AB, one of the largest financial institutions in the Nordics, investing in companies with innovative technologies. Mr. Grudén is a member of the Board of ABG Sundal Collier A/S, the leading investment bank in the Nordic region.

Anders Grudén holds two degrees: a M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering & Management and a B.Sc. in Economics & Business Administration.

Henrik Lenerius

Global Head of Products, Syncron

Henrik Lenerius’ customer experience, market knowledge and passion for innovation enable him to lead product development and strategy for the Syncron Service Cloud. Mr. Lenerius joined Syncron in 2012 as a Manager in the Expert Services organization, expanding the company’s presence in North America.

He started his career at Accenture in the Supply Chain practice with a focus on inventory management and distribution planning in global networks. He has also worked for Elanders, a global supplier to the heavy equipment and automotive industries with focus on systems implementation and 3PL solutions for aftermarket services.

Mr. Lenerius holds a M.Sc. Industrial Engineering and Management from Lund University.

Tomas Naucler

Tomas Nauclér

Sr. Partner Aftermarket & Services Practice, McKinsey

Tomas is the global leader of McKinsey’s Aftermarket & Services Practice with focus on industrial clients. He guides our practice knowledge and research agenda and supports a number of global automotive and industrial clients in transforming their aftermarket and services business. He has deep experience in a wide variety of aftermarket topics ranging from service operations, service commercialization, digital services and service growth transformations. Tomas work also includes software and advanced analytics business building and transformations for large industrial clients.

Tomas is also a leader in the Sustainability Practice. He led the development of McKinsey's landmark global and national cost curves for greenhouse gas (GHG) abatement. In the last years, he focuses on supporting industrial companies in leveraging software offering and new business models to drive growth while at the same time improving customer’s resource productivity.

Tomas’s articles have been featured widely in industry journals and his work is published regularly in the McKinsey Quarterly.

Kent O'Hara

Senior Vice President, Aftersales, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi

Kent O’Hara is Senior Vice President, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. He is responsible for Global Aftersales Division and Global Conversion & Accessory Division. He was appointed Alliance Senior Vice President on April 2018 leading the Alliance Aftersales projects among Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi.

Kent O’Hara joined Nissan North America in 2008, as Aftersales Sales & Marketing Director.
In 2013, he became Senior Director, in charge of Aftersales Sales & Marketing for US & Canada. His duties included long term strategic planning for customer retention and loyalty, business growth and sales expansion strategies. He was appointed Nissan North America Aftersales Vice President in 2014. On April 2015, Kent was appointed Corporate Vice President, Global Aftersales Division (Japan), and Global Conversion & Accessory Division.

Prior to joining Nissan, in 2000, Kent O’Hara joined Ford Motor Co. as Global Planning Manager and was responsible for strategy planning. He led Ford’s North America Aftersales logistics network renewal which is the largest renewal in the US auto industry history to date. Then in 2004, he became a Partner in a strategic consulting firm, Carlisle & Co, focused on the Motor Industry with specialties in the areas of customer retention, aftersales marketing strategies and distribution networks.

He began his career in 1990 at Honda Motor Co. America. He held various managements in the USA and the Americas region.

Kent O’Hara holds a BA in Economics from Wheaton College and a MBA in Finance from the University of Cincinnati Carl H Lindner College of Business.

Aly Pinder

Program Director, Service Innovation & Connected Products, IDC

As Program Director, Service Innovation & Connected Products, Aly Pinder Jr leads IDC research and analysis of the service and customer support market for the manufacturer, which includes topics such as field service, warranty operations, service parts management, and how these service areas impact the overall customer experience. Mr. Pinder Jr. is also responsible for research which aids manufacturers as they evaluate innovative technologies like 3D printing for service operations, augmented and virtual reality in field support, and the use of IoT and advanced analytics for remotely monitoring and managing assets. Mr. Pinder Jr. establishes a roadmap for the manufacturer to better understand how technology can transform service and support functions to drive exceptional customer experiences and customer value, profitable revenue growth, and improved efficiency in the field.

BACKGROUND

Previously, Aly has been an analyst researching the service and customer support market for ten years at The Service Council and the Aberdeen Group. He has established himself as a thought leader for the trends and best practices impacting manufacturers regarding field service, service parts management, and the Internet of Things.

Jamie Butterworth

Former CEO, The Ellen MacArthur Foundation

Jamie is a member of the Investment Committee and part of the investment management team at Circularity Capital. Jamie leads Circularity Capital's work in connecting investee management teams to new business development opportunities in the circular economy. Jamie is also head of Investor Relations.
Jamie has developed a deep understanding of how the circular economy drives value, working with a number of the world’s leading brands to support them in successfully deploying circular business models. Jamie has also been instrumental in developing and launching the Circular Economy 100, a platform for multinationals, SMEs, academic institutions and municipalities to capture the commercial opportunities of the circular economy. Jamie is a business fellow of Oxford University’s Smith School and has contributed to a number of forums on the circular economy including at the World Economic Forum and the European Commission Resource Efficiency Platform.

Gary Brooks

As Chief Marketing Officer at Syncron, Gary Brooks is responsible for global marketing and focuses on enabling leading manufacturers around the world transform their after-sales service operations to maximize product uptime.

As the global economy becomes more focused on servitization, or selling outcomes opposed to selling products, Mr. Brooks shares his vision for manufacturers as a public speaker and contributing writer. His work has been featured in publications like Forbes, VentureBeat, ZDNet, Equipment World, Nikkei, Manufacturing Business Technology and Field Service News, among others.

Prior to Syncron, Mr. Brooks was EVP of Global Marketing and Alliances at Servigistics, where he was instrumental in accelerating the company’s growth and securing the market leader position within the Service Lifecycle Management (SLM) industry. The company was sold to Marlin Equity and later to PTC. Mr. Brooks has also served in executive leadership roles at Ariba, Tradex, KnowledgeStorm, Bomgar Corporation, Cortera and Urjanet.

Mr. Brooks holds a BS from Northeastern University and a MS, Management from Lesley University.

Christian Levin

Chief Operating Officer, TRATON GROUP

As Chief Operations Officer of the TRATON GROUP, Christian is responsible for Research & Development, Alliance Management, Product Planning and Purchasing.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business & Administration and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

In 1994, he started his career with Scania as a management trainee and has since then held a number of management positions within the company in countries such as Sweden, Italy and France. During 2010-2019, he was a member of Scania’s Executive Board heading Commercial Operations and Sales & Marketing.

In 2019, Christian was appointed as Chief Operations Officer of TRATON GROUP and member of the Executive Board of TRATON SE.

Behdad Banian

VP, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, Business Area Technologies and New Businesses, Ericsson

Behdad Banian is Chief Marketing and Communications Officer for Business Area Technologies and New Businesses, at Ericsson.

A member of the Business Area’s Leadership Team, he thrives on promoting disruptive ideas and new businesses built on 5G and IoT as the platform for innovation.

During his career at Ericsson, Banian most recently served as Marketing Communications Director of Business Area Digital Services, which, among other responsibilities, involved providing solutions using cloud and IP communication to modernize, digitalize and shape new business models for communications service providers worldwide.

Prior to that, he led the Group Strategy Engagement, which involved engaging stakeholders and identifying strategic growth areas. During the years 2009-2014 Banian held the position as head of Global Brand Management, building up a global team including best in class brand framework to drive marketing transformation.

During his career with Ericsson, he has held a variety of regional and global positions in business development and strategy, marketing and communication, and brand management.

Banian holds a Master of Science in Business Administration from Stockholm School of Economics.

Now 1/3 of the worlds 7.7 billion people were born after 2001. They are all equipped with a powerful command-and-control device – a smartphone – and are willing to interact digitally with everyone and everything, from cars to homes, from transactions to services. Customer expectations of both the buying and servicing experience has changed greatly and they don’t value ownership as a concept in the same way previous generations do. Instead, they want on-demand ‘access’ to products and they’re willing to pay a premium to have access to products when they need them and be able to turn them off when they don’t. Who should attend Innovate2019?

This event is not for everyone. It’s for the forward thinkers, the innovators and thought leaders that want to be part of something extraordinary—the ones who want to be part of making history—the ones that have a vision of the future—a different future—a world where technology, customer experience, and new business models create unheard of value.

The summit is designed to provide manufacturing leaders access to research, education and peer networking to tackle some of the industry’s most common challenges in the shift to servitization. On Thursday afternoon the content will break into two unique tracks.  The Executive Symposium will focus on research and discussion for making future business decisions and discussing challenges issues including uptime, AI, 5G and the impact on moving to a SaaS model on business valuation. The Business Optimization workshops will focus on interactive workshops lead by Syncron product experts with a focus on optimizing current solutions including Syncron Price, Syncron Inventory and Syncron Uptime.

What are the “big ideas” that you’ll actually discuss at Innovate2019?

Based on extensive conversations with our customers, which represent a cross-section of leaders from all major manufacturing sectors, as well as strategic discussions with industry analysts, management consultants, academics and system integrators from the top global firms, this is what we believe to be true:

Current Situation

  • While connected products are growing rapidly with an estimated 19 billion devices now connected, a long tail of disconnected products will remain in service for the next decade.
  • With many durable goods lasting 25 years or longer, OEMs will be required to deliver break-fix service for many years.
  • Currently, more than 80% of manufacturers have less than ¼ of their products connected.
  • While many OEM are moving in the direction of servitization and will eventually offer products as a service (PaaS), most are in the infancy stage on this journey and remain largely focused on optimizing repair execution—delivering faster and better service—and have not yet evolved to maximizing product uptime.
  • Some OEMs are in the process of building servitization infrastructure, but most are in their infancy with only 40% of having some type of IoT pilot underway or business units or enterprise-wide deployments.
  • Customers’ appetite for product-as-a-service is already ahead of OEMs’ ability to deliver these services, which is driving OEMs to cautiously accelerate their journey to servitization.

We speak with our customers every single day. As a global company serving OEMs around the world we started to hear common questions around how to get the information they needed to move towards selling products-as-a-service. When we started looking at available opportunities, there was a gap and we decided to fill it. Is there a cost to attend Innovate2019?

Yes! The registration fee for Innovate2019 is kr4 995 + VAT (Convert to your local currency here). The registration fees include access to the entire 2-day Innovate2019 program, meals and special events. The cost helps us cover the amazing speakers we’re bringing together and the memorable experience at the At Six hotel.  We often have discounts available so send an email to innovate2019@syncron.com if you have concerns about the cost.

Is there a hotel room block available at the venue?

Yes! We have secured a small number of rooms onsite at the At Six property for a negotiated daily rate of kr2 178 per night. If you’d like to reserve a room please send an email directly to innovate2019@syncron.com to confirm availability and dates. You will need to provide a personal credit card upon check-in. Fortunately, the event is very central in Stockholm. There are nearby properties for a lesser rate within walking distance. Here are a couple recommendations:

How frequently is the agenda updated?

We’re actively building out the remainder of the agenda now. As new session abstracts are developed and speakers identified we’ll update on the website. Are there group discounts for registration?

Yes! If you send 3+ individuals you will receive 25% off all registration fees. This cannot be combined with other discounts. Send an email to innovate2019@syncon.com to request a code.

What should I pack for attendance to Innovate2019?

The weather will be potentially a bit chilly in November 41 F (5 C) / 34 F (1 C) . We suggest bringing a warm jacket and potentially an umbrella should you venture out and explore the city. Generally the indoor program will be business casual. For men, slacks, sweaters, long-sleeve shirts will be comfortable. For women, slacks, skirts, dresses with tights, sweaters will be comfortable. It might be good to have a cardigan or blazer handy for layers. During the opening Wednesday evening program cocktail reception and dinner, evening attire is encouraged (because we’re celebrating!) but not required. Cocktail dresses, blazers, ties if you feel inclined!

Can spouses or significant others attend?

No. Unfortunately, space is extremely limited at the venue and we’re unable to accommodate additional guests.

Can a refund be issued for registration?

Yes. A full refund will be processed with written notification before 12 October 2019. After this date, no refunds will be issued.
